Doctor David Benson

A family medicine physician born and raised in Skagit Valley!

I am a fellowship-trained family physician with more than two decades of experience caring for patients in diverse settings. This background informs my practice with a deep commitment to comprehensive, wholistic, patient-centered care.

I earned my medical degree at the University of Washington School of Medicine and then completed my family medicine residency at Providence St. Peter Hospital in Olympia, where I served as Chief Resident. I later finished an obstetrics fellowship at Swedish Medical Center in Seattle.

My professional interests include clinical procedures, sports medicine, and exploring patient stories. This helps me better understand root causes of health, illness, and disease in each individual. Patients often tell me they appreciate my approachable style, thoroughness, and dedication to building lasting relationships.

Before medicine, I was well on my way toward a violin performance major at Pacific Lutheran University, but then felt a strong calling to pursue medicine instead. Music remains an important part of who I am, and today I serve as concertmaster of the Skagit Symphony.

I also served as a physician in the U.S. Navy in Okinawa and the Philippines, where I provided medical relief to military and underserved communities. Further participating in medical mission work in Jamaica and Mexico, has deepened my commitment to improving access to care and serving patients across diverse cultural settings.

Growing up in a large family on a wheat farm in Skagit Valley, I learned the values of hard work, resilience, and community roots—principles that continue to shape my approach to medicine today. I am married to Amanda, a family nurse practitioner, and together we are raising five amazing children! As a family, we enjoy hiking, skiing, tennis, cultural events, and traveling to foreign countries. Beyond medicine, I am deeply engaged in my church youth and music programs.
